GoDaddy is sometimes hard to take seriously; its marketing department seems to be run by the same bunch of teenage boys in charge of Axe commercials. But GoDaddy is still the world's largest domain registrar, and it's poised to help Twitter with a new step in its registration process.
The fastest growing country code top-level domain is .ME. The .ME Registry just announced that the extension has hit a quarter million domains registered.
"This is the kind of reaction we always knew we would elicit with dot-ME," says Predrag Lesic, executive director of the .ME Registry. "Dot-ME has become an Internet phenomenon."
GoDaddy has released as service called SmartSpace, which it claims will make creating web sites - complete with blogs, chat rooms, email addresses, photo galleries, and video showcases - easy for people that are not the least bit "tech savvy."
Registrar GoDaddy began offering the .me domains from registration, but the process overwhelmed the company with issues.
There's nothing improper about the VP of aftermarket domain auctions bidding up domain prices, says GoDaddy, but they've banned employees from participating in the future anyway, just to make everybody happy. And likely, to make the all the dirty looks go away. What looked like an idle comment in NamePros.com's domain forum stirred up the hornets nest a bit. The comment from a senior forum member going by Stevie read this way:
What's in a (domain) name?Part of your online identity, for a start. Have you registered a domain in your own name? If not, have you checked whether someone else has? And if they have, do you know what they’re doing with your name?
Site owner Gino Sesto picked the wrong host for his RateMyCop.com site, as GoDaddy took it offline and evidently refused to provide the real reason for doing so.
GoDaddy CEO Bob Parsons has revealed, on his "Hot Points" blog, that after 10 submitted spots were rejected by Fox Network, the network has approved and agreed to air the new 2008 Superbowl Ads starring Danica Patrick in a commericial he calls "Spot On" in an apparent reference to all the rejected spots which are "off" because they were rejected.
There's a new official Super Bowl Ads Page live now at http://www.myspace.com/superbowlads .Grab that OFFICIAL Superbowl Countdown widget and customize it with your own message, then put it on your own profile or blog.
Go Daddy and Google collaborate to offer easy access to Webmaster Tools, informs the Google Webmaster Central Blog.
