Katie Holmes is the latest high-profile celebrity to finally join the ranks of the tweeting world, and it’s this kind of star power that the company hopes will bolster its image as it prepare for an IPO. In about 6 hours on the service, Holmes has already racked up nearly 16,000 followers.

Holmes used her first tweet to publicize a cast photo from the set of her current filming project, an adaptation of the Newbery award-winning children’s classic The Giver.

    I hate twitter. It is the anti-christ. Well, not really, but close. It may just be me, but twitter has made Hollywood seem even more fake than it really is normally. Half the stars hate each other, but on twitter everyone seems to be best friends. It is all so contrived. I bet it isn’t even really the stars themselves tweeting. Probably some manager or something.
