iOS 5 Release Date: October 12 (Official)

iOS 5 will be released on October 12, Apple announced today at the iPhone event. It’s been expected any time this fall, but now we have a solid date, and it’s coming up.

iOS 5 was announced months ago, and will come with lots of new features. Read all about it here.

Of course a major feature of that is iCloud, which the company touted once again today. It will also be shipped October 12.

There’s not a lot new in this part of the discussion as far as I can tell, other than the release date.

iTunes Match (which was announced with iCloud), will be out at the end of the month, by the way.

It will be on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, iPod touch 3rd and 4th generations.

But what about the iPhone 5? Oh the suspense.

Stay tuned for more.

Because of the the extra $250 bucks I’ll have to pay to upgrade to a 4S I will pass on the4S and have to be satisfied with the improvements that iOS5 will bring, however when y contract is up in july of 2012 I will be moving to Verizon. By that time the iPhone 5 will hopefully be available.

My concerns are that the iPhone 3GS will struggle to support the new, feature rich IOS5. After all, it is kind of in Apple’s best interests to keep us upgrading to their most recent products and one way of doing that is to frustrate the user. Either way, I’m looking forward to the outcome! :)
