Zooey Deschanel was on maternity leave, covered for in the show as jury duty, when the first episodes of this season of New Girl were filmed, of course.

And I’ll admit, when the news came out that Megan Fox was to be her replacement, my eyes may have rolled a little. I’m sure I’m not the only fan of Zooey Deschanel’s that did.

However, after the first episode starring Megan Fox as Zooey Deschanel’s replacement aired on Tuesday I, and likely many others, was pleasantly surprised.

Megan Fox didn’t just take over the show with her requisite hotness. Of course, her hotness was alluded to, but it wasn’t the focus.

Megan Fox stepped into Zooey Deschanel’s shoes quite confidently.

In fact, it was that confidence that seemed to win many a new fan.

New Girl creator Liz Meriwether said of Megan Fox, “Yeah, she’s great. We’re really lucky to have her. There’s something about her in this character that felt sort of new for her, and then there’s something about this character on the show that felt good for us, this confident, tough-talking woman coming in to see through the guys’ bulls**t.”

She added, “We do a lot of anxious, neurotic-people comedy, so it was nice to have this character who wasn’t going through all of those things.”

Zooey Deschanel as Jess is absolutely the picture of the anxious and neurotic, and we’ll miss her until she’s back. But, Megan Fox is a great addition to the show for now!
