Zelda Williams took to Instagram this weekend to share her thoughts on living with grief and sadness. In doing so, she honored her late father, Robin Williams, who took his own life just over a year ago.
In her message, Zelda Williams wrote of how she has started to rebound from her sadness and how hard life has been since her father’s suicide.
“Avoiding fear, sadness or anger is not the same thing as being happy,” Zelda Williams wrote. “I live my sadness every day, but I don’t resent it anymore.”
“Instead, I do it now so that the wonderful moments of joy I do find are not in order to forget, but to inhabit and enjoy for their own sake,” she added.
Zelda Williams’ words served to caption a photograph of a rising sun, flanked by mountains escaping the darkness.
Zelda Williams made sure to note how difficult life has been for her since her dad took his own life.
“It’s not easy,” she wrote. “In fact, I’d say it takes much more effort to consciously do than it does to just stay sad, but with all my heart, I cannot tell you how worth it it is.”
Zelda Williams made sure to offer some hope for those still plagued by the darkness of depression and despair.
“I know how dark and endless the tunnel can feel, but if happiness seems impossible to find, please hold on to the possibility of hope, faint though it may be.”
Perhaps if this message from Zelda Williams encourages even one person to move past the depths of despair her father Robin Williams suffered, then perhaps his death won’t have been in vain.
