Google is displaying a doodle on its homepage today, celebrating the 123rd anniversary of Yosemite National Park. This just happens to come at a time when the government has reportedly closed the park as part of the larger government shutdown.
As Fox News, who spoke with park officials, explains, “the National Park Services’ contingency plan states in the event of a shutdown all activities at the parks, except for necessary emergency services, would be immediately suspended and the parks would be closed indefinitely.”
According to the report, the public will be unable to enter the park, and visitors already camping are being ordered to leave within two days. Meanwhile, roads leading to the park will be closed and monuments will be barricaded.
Some park access has already been shut down as a result of it being the site of the 4th biggest wildfire in California history.
Yosemite National Park covers 761,268 acres, and spans three counties in California. According to the National Parks Service, over 3.7 million people visit the park each year.
