Yahoo has made yet another acquisition. This time it’s Hitpost, the company behind a handful of sports betting and polling apps.
The acquisition was first reported by TechCrunch, but now Hitpost says in a message on its homepage:
We are excited to announce that Hitpost is joining Yahoo! To us, Yahoo is a both a legendary tech company and an innovative leader in the sports market. Teaming up with Yahoo is an exciting strategic opportunity for Hitpost to deliver our value at a larger scale, and we can’t wait to get started.
Our team of seven has joined Yahoo Sports in Sunnyvale and San Francisco, where we will be working to bring Hitpost’s technology-powered engagement to Yahoo’s global audience. We will no longer operate our products as of today (Sports Bet, Fantasy Football Polls, and Hitpost.com), and we can’t wait to get started on some exciting new Yahoo Sports updates — stay tuned!
Yahoo is acquiring companies almost as frequently as it is redesigning its own products. The company recently acquired another sports-themed company, when it bought Bignoggins, makers of a mobile fantasy app for managing football, basketball, baseball and hockey fantasy teams.
It didn’t take long for Yahoo to integrate technology from the Bignoggins acquisition into a new fantasy app, and I suspect Yahoo will move quickly to incorporate the Hitpost acquisition into its own products.
