Yahoo! Browser Comes To Android Phones In Japan

Yahoo! has released their own web browser for Android phones. Interestingly, the browser is only available in Japan. It brings with it a slew of security features, and (as you might expect) defaults to Yahoo as the search engine. That last bit is likely a dig at Google, since using Yahoo search on an Android phone undermines Google’s primary means of monetizing Android.

The Yahoo! Browser, which was announced on Yahoo! Japan’s blog (Google Translation), is a fairly standard Android browser. It relies on a Quick Control menu to keep the interface minimal. Just slight your thumb in from the right side of the screen to bring up a pair of concentric semicircles with a variety of menu options.

It also includes a widget for your device’s home screen and a Read Later function that, as the name suggests, allows you to save web pages to read later. It also syncs to your Yahoo! account if you sign into the browser with your account credentials. A variety of security functions promise to provide a safe browsing experience by warning you when you visit a website that might be unsafe.

The browser is available as a free download for Japanese Android users.
