The Xbox One may be falling behind the PlayStation 4 in terms of sales, but Microsoft isn't giving up on its Kinect-bundled next-generation console.

Today Microsoft announced that the Xbox One will be coming to 26 new markets later this year. Sometime September 2014 the console will officially launch in the following countries:

Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, India, Israel, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and UAE

Since the launch of the Xbox One the console has been available in only around a dozen countries and most of its sales have come in the U.S. and UK. Microsoft had originally planned to release the console in 21 countries during 2014 but scaled back that number to only 13, presumably to increase stock in more crucial territories. The countries that were left out of the initial launch period (mainly Russia and Scandinavian countries) will now get the chance to purchase non-imported Xbox Ones nearly a year after its initial release.

Microsoft has been doing all that it can in recent weeks to help the Xbox One compete with the PlayStation 4. The company slashed the price of the console by £30 in the UK while at the same time offering a bundle for the highly-anticipated Titanfall. The Xbox One is now also being offered with a free digital copy of Forza Motorsport 5.

Though sales of the Xbox One may not be hitting the levels Microsoft had hoped, it does appear that many Xbox One owners are quite satisfied with their purchase. In addition to the release date announcement Microsoft today revealed that Xbox One owners are using their Xbox One to game and watch TV for an average of more than five hours per day.

Microsoft's gamble on Titanfall exclusivity may have paid off as well. The game's launch week saw the highest number of hours logged-on to Xbox Live since last November.
