You don’t get nearly 6 million dollars on Kickstarter without making a few enemies, especially if you had three seasons to make them. The opening sequence of the Veronica Mars movie looks back at Veronica’s tainted Neptune past.

On Friday night (February 28), the first two minutes of the Veronica Mars movie were officially released. These two minutes give a brief recap of the entire series, an addition likely made to accommodate those new to Veronica’s world.

The clips used in the Veronica Mars movie opening shows Veronica’s rise and fall as a private investigator, and her complicated history with the “obligatory psychotic jackass” Logan Echols.

The design of the sequence presents an interesting contrast to the series’ previous opening credits. It’s an evolution of the shows’ first and third season credits. The only thing missing is the “We Used to Be Friends” by The Dandy Warhols theme song. The two minutes end with Veronica saying, “People say I’m a marshmallow.” This is another clever reference from the show, and an allusion to the fans called Marshmallows.

The first two minutes tease just enough to get Veronica Mars fans excited for the movie, but give nothing new away.

Veronica Mars aired from 2004-2007 on UPN and the CW; it was canceled after the third season. However, last year, through a Kickstarter campaign, fans got their long awaited wish of a Veronica Mars movie. The Kickstarter campaign became the biggest one in its history. It obtained over 91,000 backers and made 5.7 million dollars in 30 days. It reached its $2 million goal in a couple hours.

The Veronica Mars movie will make a revolutionary move with its theatrical release coinciding with the VOD release. The success of the Kickstarter campaign has already expanded the franchise to a book series and online one.

Veronica Mars hits theaters and VOD on March 14.
