Twitter Video Is Almost Here: Report

Last November, Twitter said that a native video feature – one that allowed users to record and edit their own videos for in-line appearance in tweets – was on the way. The timing was said to be early 2015.

Apparently, it’s almost here. According to a report from Re/code, who quote the ubiquitous ‘sources familiar with the matter’, Twitter is planning on rolling out the native video product in the next few weeks.

And there will be a time limit for videos – reportedly around 20 seconds. That’s a bit longer than Instagram’s video limit (15 seconds) and much longer than Vine’s (6 seconds). As of right now, the only way to get a video to play in-line inside your tweets is to attach a Vine.

From Re/code:

This new feature is different from Vine, but it apparently has some similarities. With the native video tool, you can upload video from your phone’s camera roll, or shoot and edit video directly through the Twitter app, according to sources who have seen and used the feature.

More videos mean more engagement. Facebook knows this. Twitter has already been pushing branded video content on the site, but this would be the first time the company has allowed regular users to natively add video to their tweets.
