Twitter has been down through various parts of the day, and a lot of people have been freaking out, or finding other things to do with their time.
Initially, Twitter had said the following on its status blog:
Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue.
The company later updated the post, adding:
Update: The issue is on-going and engineers are working to resolve it.
Twitter has since tweeted the following message:
Today’s outage is due to a cascaded bug in one of our infrastructure components. We’ll provide updated information soon.
Google+ users have been having fun with the Twitter downtime, with some indicating that such a thing would never happen on that social network. Given Google’s history with Gmail, I’m not so sure about that. Obviously, many people use both social networks, and some were just happy to engage in a different place while Twitter was/is dealing with its problems. I’m sure Facebook has seen its share of visitors affected by Twitter’s outage as well.
