Twitter has acknowledged that a bug with Twitter Circle displayed private tweets to random users.
Twitter Circle lets users send tweets only to a close “circle” of friends, but the company says a security issue resulted in those tweets being shown to random people, according to 9to5Mac.
“In April 2023, a security incident may have allowed users outside of your Twitter Circle to see tweets that should have otherwise been limited to the Circle to which you were posting,” says an email sent by Twitter. “This issue was identified by our security team and immediately fixed so that these tweets were no longer visible outside of your Circle.”
The company adds that it remains “committed to protecting the privacy of the people who use our service, and we understand the risks that an incident like this can introduce and we deeply regret this happened.”
The issue is simply the latest in an ever-growing list of issues plaguing the company since Elon Musk laid off roughly half the company’s staff.
