The entertainment world says goodbye to another talented actor, Turhan Bey, who made appearances in various modern television shows, as well as classic 1940s films.

Turhan Bey, from Vienna, Austria, became involved with acting after his family migrated to the United States in 1940 to escape the Nazi occupation. Bey appeared in many well-known 1940s films, such as:

  • Hassen Mohammed in Raiders of the Desert (1941)
  • Captain Chundra in Bombay Clipper (1941)
  • Mehemet Bey in The Mummy’s Tomb (1942)
  • Tamara in White Savage (1943)
  • Eric Iverson in The Mad Ghoul (1943)
  • Herua in Sudan (1945)

By the end of the 1940s, Bey’s career faded out, but then produced a movie called Stolen Identity in 1953. Bey then returned back to Austria, where he pursued the careers of photography and stage directing.

Bey returned back to the United States in the early 1990s, making various small appearances in the following television shows:

  • Dimitri Rossovich in SeaQuest DSV (1993)
  • Sherif Faris in Murder, She Wrote (1995)
  • Centauri Emperor Turhan (and) Turval in Babylon 5 (1995/1998)
  • Zeno in The Skateboard Kid II (2000)

On September 30th of 2012, Turhan Bey died at the age of 90 years old after suffering a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Many fans of Bey have left their condolences via Twitter:
