Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm donned a hoodie yesterday to show her solidarity with the “Million Hoodie March” that took place in New York City. The march was in support of the family of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager who was shot and died in an altercation with a self-appointed community watch member last month.
The post on her Facebook page reads: “Suiting up in solidarity with the ‘Million Hoodie’ March for Trayvon Martin.” Granholm was the first female governor of Michigan and served from 2003 until 2011. She now hosts a political news and commentary show on Current TV called The War Room with Jennifer Granholm.
The Trayvon Martin case has garnered attention for its unusual circumstances, involving Florida self-defense laws and race. Protesters online and (now in New York) are outraged by what they see as a failure of police to properly investigate the shooting. New evidence has recently come to light that could support their assertion that Martin was murdered. The case has only recently been taken up for further investigation by Florida and federal authorities.
