Trace Adkins is reportedly in rehab this week after a drunken brawl on a cruise ship…with a Trace Adkins impersonator.
The country star was on a cruise-liner bound for Jamaica on Monday when he ran into the impersonator, who was doing karaoke in the bar. It’s unclear what went down between the two men, but Adkins allegedly started the fight, which ended with him canceling the remainder of his shows on the NCL Pearl in order to check in to rehab. He had previously been sober for more than a dozen years.
Adkins and the man have reportedly met before several years ago, but it’s unclear whether their previous meeting had anything to do with the fight. A spokesperson for the singer issued a statement, saying, “Trace has entered a treatment facility after a setback in his battle with alcoholism. As he faces these issues head-on, we ask that his family’s privacy will be respected.”
Adkins isn’t the first country star to have issues with alcohol and violence; in 2012, Randy Travis had several run-ins with the law for driving drunk, crashing his car, and fighting in church parking lots, among other things. Unfortunately, the singer was hospitalized last summer for cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure, and suffered a stroke around that same time. The heart issues apparently didn’t come from substance abuse, however.
“From the appearance on echocardiograms, which are images of his heart, this is not the appearance of either drugs or alcohol causing the heart condition. Mr. Travis does have a family history of cardiomyopathy and it is more likely related to that,” Dr. Michael Mack said.
