It should come as no surprise that Tom Brady is a favorite of sports blogs everywhere. Whether they are heaping piles of adulation on him (Patriots blogs) or latching onto every move he makes in an effort to poke fun at him (the rest of the sports blogosphere), there isn’t much Tom Terrific can do that will escape the public’s eye. Such is the price some have to pay when they are considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league, on top of being married to a stunning model like Gisele Bundchen.
Take Brady’s appearance at the Met Gala in New York. Fresh of his Kentucky Derby appearance, which also hit the wires pretty hard, Brady showed up with his lovely wife, and while some publications tried to make Gisele’s leg the star of the show–which, perhaps, it should be–Brady’s hair, for better or worse, is getting the bulk of the press, complete with the tongue-in-cheek approach you’d expect from your average sports blogger.
It’s the case of Tom Brady and his faux hawk hairstyle, and it was covered from all angles. Some examples follow:
Monday at the Met Ball: a heavily-gelled faux hawk that would make David Beckham proud. This should warrant at least a 90-second discussion on SportsNation.
So far, Twitter wags have likened the new faux-hawk to “David Beckham + Ed Grimley” and “Cameron Diaz in ‘There’s Something About Mary’“. That said, I’ve yet to see a Boston fan bemoaning the latest effete Brady look as proof that Dreamboat has lost it and Gisele has Yoko’d the Patriots.
Shutdown Corner got in on it, too:
Tom Brady showed off his umpteenth hairstyle at a gala Monday night at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. It features shaved sides, a punked-up front a Dennis the Menace cowlick and more hair spray than is used in an actual production of “Hairspray.”
It should be noted that even though everyone is referring to Brady’s hairstyle as a “fauxhawk,’ us included, it’s probably more of a faux-Gumby, but that doesn’t roll off the tongue like fauxhawk does, clearly.
For example, this is a Gumby:
And this is what you get when you search “faux hawk,” you’re greeted with LOTS of pictures of David Beckham, who clearly brought this hairstyle to the rest of the free world:
Now, compare another look at Brady’s hair with the above images and tell which label fits his hairstyle the best:
Looks like a Gumby to me, but I digress. As indicated, Twitter did not miss out on any of the Brady hair fun, either:
@TheBigLead Tom Brady’s Fauxhawk Was Out of Control at the Met Ball (Tim Tebow was there, too) http://t.co/mLVQcV9O
Tebow wins this round RTThat’s OK. I’m sure beating the hell out of Tim Tebow in the playoffs will console Tom. Somehow.
Considering Traina’s link goes to a pic of Brady smooching his wife, that’s a good way to end this little ditty on. Say what you want about Brady’s hair. He’s going home with a supermodel. You? Probably not.
