Besides being a day of remembrance, this Sunday marks the first full day of regular season NFL football. And the crowd, as we speak, is going wild. The crowd I’m referring to is Twitter of course, and even though there’s a heavy sense of 9/11 memories being posted, there’s also cause for celebration now that the NFL is about to take center stage.
Once again, it’s time to get those tailgating materials gathered up, pull out your favorite player’s jersey, get those fantasy football lineups set, and settle in for a full day of the nation’s most popular sport. Granted, the NFL perhaps lacks the in-your-face passion of a college football game, check out the crowd in Beaver Stadium yesterday, or the crowd for the Michigan/Notre Dame football game last night for further examples, but the fact remains, America loves its NFL football, and because of that, today has even more significance than remembering when the Twin Towers fell.
Is this a conflict of interest? Should we be concentrating our efforts on remembering those that fell with the towers instead of getting ready to enjoy the football fun? While some think so:
Football Sunday is trending? What about 9-11? The 9-11 where thousands of people died.. And all you care about is football. Smhh. <\3
I’m of the mind that there’s room for both mourning and celebrating. Lest we forget the role sports played in salving the wounds when the attacks occurred 10 years ago. Today should be no different.
As is often the case, when something popular is going down, Twitter reacts with aplomb, and the official start of NFL Sundays is no exception:
oh wait… is it FOOTBALL SUNDAY??? yeeaaahhhhh
RT if You a Female & Your Excited About Football Sunday .
Happy Football Sunday…prayers & blessing to the families who lost loved ones or may have been involved directly 10 years ago on this date
As I was saying, there is room for both. Even the tweens are in on the football fun:
FOOTBALL SUNDAY Steelers! Yeah! 😀
Sometimes, not everyone appreciates the football devotion, however:
First Football Sunday I’m hyped..I gotta have a Mute button for the Female frequency around me! Today women get mad because I get deaf!
@BmoreVivid: Some women dont understand damagnitude of da 1st football sunday. It’s like the 1st day of … http://t.co/PQLiTcw
LolRTBut not all the ladies are opposed to hours and hours of football fun:
ITS FINALLY FOOTBALL SUNDAY!!!
don’t want to do homework today..it’s football sunday, like come on!
Who’s ready for the first Football Sunday!!! Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<———-
So yeah, football. It’s not just a “men only as spectators” sport. With that, I hope your first football Sunday of the season is successful, just as long as you aren’t a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. If you can’t find a feed of your game to watch online, Twitter will be able to fill in whatever blanks you miss.
