Last year, investor and Twitter elite Ashton Kutcher joined the cast of the hit show Two and a Half Men, replacing Charlie Sheen after Sheen had a well-publicized “episode” and disagreement with the show’s creator Chuck Lorre. He joined the show as Walden Schmidt, a self-made internet billionaire. Now, according to Variety, Kutcher is about to add another tech character to his list of roles.

Except this guy really existed and this could be Kutcher’s role of a lifetime. It looks like Kutcher will play the late Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic.

Variety first reported the news on Sunday, which of course happened to be April Fool’s Day. To many, this story seemed like a pretty good April Fool’s joke. But it’s no joke – the upcoming film, entitled “Jobs” will star the That 70’s Show star, and will track the Apple CEO “from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, where he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time.”

The indie film is being helmed by Joshua Michael Stern, who directed Kevin Costner in 2008’s Swing Vote. To be clear, “Jobs” is not going to be based on the recent smash-hit Steve Jobs biography written by Walter Isaacson. That film is a Sony Pictures project and according to IMDB, has a tentative release date of 2014. So it appears that we’ll have at least two high-profile Steve Jobs movies coming out in the next couple of years.

This one will receive a lot of attention from the Kutcher hire. Kutcher has his hands in a lot of tech startups these days (Airbnb, for instance) He’s also one of the biggest stars on Twitter. As one of the first big celebs to heavily use the service, Kutcher became the first person to hit 1 million followers.

Plus, you can’t deny the resemblance. Since the film is apparently starting with Jobs in his hippie days, it almost feels like Kutcher is the perfect actor to represent Jobs.

At least for that era – we’ll have to wait and see how Kutcher looks in a black turtleneck.
