For those of you who watched the latest “Person of Interest” episode, you know what a tearjerker it was. For those of you who haven’t, you may want to stop reading now because spoilers are ahead.

In the very emotional episode that aired on Tuesday night, Taraji Henson, who plays Joss Carter, was killed while performing her job that she devoted her life to. Henson won over the hearts of fans during the two and a half seasons she spent on the CBS drama, and she is sure to be missed by everyone who watches the show.

Although it meant leaving the show, Henson says she was ready for a change and wanted to keep the show exciting. “Sometimes in TV you get too comfortable. You got to shake things up,” she said. “And I think that’s the beauty of this show. No one’s safe. Sometimes you got to shake it up, and I’m a ballsy girl so I was down for it.”

She also explained that when she took the role, she didn’t plan on lasting through the entire series. “I always knew that we would have a beginning, a middle and an end,” Henson told Entertainment Weekly. “You don’t tell the audience “Hey, she’s not gonna last!’ because that’s the whole surprise element, but that’s what’s so innovative about the show and that’s why I joined. We always knew we would do two, maybe three seasons.”

However, when it came time to film the last seen, Henson says it was not as easy as she thought. “It was sad. You portray a character for so long, you care about her and her life,” she said. “But art imitates life—it comes to an end unexpectedly. It was bittersweet, because I enjoyed portraying Carter. What a strong, powerful woman on television.”

Henson had some last words for all of Carter’s fans, “Carter will always be with you. Now she’s an angel, so she’s even more powerful.”
