Sylvester Stallone is working the crowd already for his upcoming Rocky spin-off/sequel, Creed.

While news hounds in Philadelphia were reporting that Sylvester Stallone was in town to shoot scenes for the film, the man who brought Rocky to the big screen almost 40 years ago was working another screen in Liverpool.

Sylvester Stallone needed some crowd scene footage for use in the Creed film, so he popped up on the Jumbotron screen at halftime in Goodison Park, a football stadium located in Walton, Liverpool, England. Perhaps a little explanation is in order to show the connection.

The movie Creed is centered on Adonis Creed, the grandson of Rocky’s one-time-rival-turned-traininer-and-friend Apollo Creed. Rocky trains Adonis Creed in the film. Within the story, Adonis Creed fights Pretty Boy Porter. Porter is played by British boxer Tony Bellew. Bellew is a huge
Everton football club fan and knows people in the organization.

So when Sylvester Stallone needed crowd footage, Bellew made some calls. He also posted a tweet.

Adonis Creed is played by Michael B. Jordan. Jordan is already known for his roles in The Wire, Friday Night Lights, and Parenthood. In addition to taking on the part of Adonis Creed in the iconic film canon, Jordan is also cast as Johnny Storm, AKA The Human Torch, in two upcoming Fantastic Four productions.

Earlier today, Philly Mag reported that Sylvester Stallone was seen “shopping at I. Goldberg (1300 Chestnut St.) and strolling down 13th Street with a pal.” The original Rocky films were based largely in Philadelphia, where the famous images of Rocky Balboa running through the streets in the early morning, racing up the library steps were filmed. Stallone himself went to high school in Philly, and Philly claims Rocky as its son, erecting a statue in his honor. When Sylvester Stallone comes to town to film another Rocky movie, people pay attention.
