It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the guys at Apple. First, there’s the hubbub surrounding the iPhone’s ability to track its users, followed by South Park’s lampooning of everything about the the iUniverse. Now, we have perhaps the most awesome case modification that’s ever been, thanks in large part to the carbonite chamber in Bespin and Lando Calrissian’s double-dealing with the Empire.

Without that inspiration, who knows what the results would have been?

What we have is an incredible mock-up of an iPhone case featuring the omnipresent Steve Jobs frozen in carbonite, courtesy of the Society6 website. To put it simply, the case mod is just fantastic:

Unfortunately, this is all you are going to see of the Steve Jobs in Carbonite case mod, because, well… I guess no one at Apple has a sense of humor. After debuting the modified iPhone case as a purchasable item, Society6 was hit with a cease and desist. From the listing:

Well it was fun while it lasted. Yesterday, Society6 was issued a cease and desist from Apple’s lawyers. So I’m sorry to say that the cases and skins are no longer available. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Who knows, maybe Apple was pissed off about the HumanCentiPad?

In other news, I thought parody was protected by the fair use standard; although, maybe the folks at Apple just need a better sense of humor. One that allows such modifications to flourish.
