  • It probably will not surprise anyone that the UConn Huskies have won the Women’s NCAA championship, led by the talented senior Stefanie Dolson. Last night’s performance was outstanding by each of the UConn players, and they clearly showed why they were undefeated heading into the game.

In order to win the championship this year, they had to get past another undefeated team, Notre Dame, but it was not much of a competition, as the Huskies won 79-58, and completely dominated throughout.

UConn continues to dominate their competition every year and the 2013-2014 season was no different, as they went undefeated throughout the season. This year marks the ninth time that the Huskies have won the championship, a record for NCAA Women.

Stefanie Dolson is set to be the No.1 pick in the WNBA draft, and clearly showed why with her performance on Tuesday night. In the title game against the Fighting Irish, Dolson finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds.

Of course, her 6’5 presence went much further than her statistic performance, and they completed dominated in the paint. It was the most dominating post performance women’s basketball has ever seen in a title game with UConn having an advantage of 52-22 over Notre Dame in the paint.

Speaking on her outstanding perfromance coach Gene Auriemma said “Stefanie Dolson played the game of her life and got every rebound. That was the key.”

Dolson also helped the Huskies get the second highest rebounding margin in championship game history, having an advantage of 54-31. She was the top performer on the team, but also received great help from sophomore forward Breanna Stewart, who recorded 21 points and 9 rebounds.

With the help of senior center Stefanie Dolson, the UConn Huskies finished the season with a record of 40-0, an impressive record for any team to obtain. Notre Dame has been a close second in the league recently, although there seems to be a wide gap between No.1 and No.2.

Following the win by the UConn women, this makes it the first time since 2004 that both the men and women from the same school have won the title in the same year, giving UConn the honor both years, and they are also the only team that has achieved the honor.

UConn continues to dominate, and with the help of Stefanie Dolson, they went undefeated again this year. How will their season end up next year without their senior center?
