  • Stana Katic leaving Castle? Unthinkable.

Fans of the ABC show may have to imagine Castle without Beckett if Stana Katic does not renew her contract to return for Season Eight.

Aficionados of the show can rest assured that Rick Castle will still be sleuthing about. Nathan Fillion has renewed his contract to return should the eighth season be ordered, which is still unclear at this point. However, Stana Katic has yet to sign a new deal, according to TVLine.com.

Stana Katic hinted that she may chose to move on in an interview with TVLine in November.

“If the character is complete, if there is nowhere else to go creatively, then I think it’s better to stop when you’re on top…. [F]or me it’s about art over finance, and as long as we’re creating something that is compelling and that has somewhere to go, then we’re good to go. And when we find that we’re not… then it’s time for everyone to pack up and move onto the next thing,” said Stana Katic.

Showrunner David Amann, who replaced creator Andrew W. Marlowe this season, will not return, and there is no word yet on who will replace Amann.

Castle has not yet been renewed for an eighth season, and without Stana Katic, there may be no hope. It’s hard to imagine a Rick Castle without his Beckett.

Cast member Seamus Dever’s contract is also set to expire this season and it’s not clear if he will sign. He told TVLine that the future of the show was “really up in the air.”

Castle‘s Season 7 finale is set to air on Monday, May 11, and will find Beckett at “a crossroads,” according to the synopsis.

    That can’t be good.

Hey Castle fans, would you watch the show without Stana Katic?
