Sons of Anarchy: Season 5 has finally received a Netflix release date, and luckily for fans, it’s very close. As you can see from the screenshot below, the season is slated to become available for streaming beginning on October 26th, which is two days from now.
Netflix has confirmed to us that the season is indeed on the way. It has been available on Netflix via DVD for a while, but Netflix’s DVD subscriber base is not what it once was, though it still generated $107 million in profit for the company during last quarter.
As Netflix revealed when it released its earnings report, despite the popularity of its original titles like House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and the rest (which they do say are a major component of gaining new subscribers), its third-party TV content is still more popular on the service, so the more seasons of TV shows like Sons of Anarchy that they add, the happier customers are going to be.
The fact that SoA: Season 5 is becoming available in late October lends credence to the theory that we’ll be seeing the last seasons of other FX shows American Horror Story and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia coming in November and December, respectively, as these were the months that the shows were added to Netflix in the past. SoA: Season 4 hit Netflix in late October last year, while American Horror Story hit in November, and Sunny hit in December.
Again, this is just speculation though. Netflix could still change it up. We’ll just have to wait and see.
