After teasing the new content for months, EA and developer Maxis today released the latest expansion pack for The Sims 3.

The Sims 3: Into the Future features the ability for players to take their sims to the future and back. Future technology such as robots, hoverboards, food dispensers, jetpacks, and “dream pods” are waiting in the future world of the game. The expansion is available today in North America for both PC and Mac.

In addition, the choices that players make in the past can affect what type of future they see. Using an “Almanac of Time,” players can manipulate events to see one of three futures – a normal one, a utopian one, or a dystopian one. Sims themselves can leave a legacy for the future, and players will be able to track the progeny of their sims to see how they turn out.

“Our fans have been asking to take their Sims to the future for quite some time and we’re delivering that all-new experience with the world of Oasis Landing in The Sims 3 Into the Future,” said Kari St. John, senior producer for The Sims 3 Into the Future. “Sims will eat, sleep, shower, and even ‘WooHoo’ in new ways thanks to the advancements in future technology. With new creative tools like Create-A-Plumbot to customize unique Plumbots with traits of their very own and the ability to affect the outcome of the future based off the Sim’s present day actions, we can’t wait to see what kind of stories our fans will tell.”
