Selena Gomez premiered her music video for her new single, The Heart Wants What It Wants, and she dished about it–and about Justin Bieber–recently with Ryan Seacrest. It’s clear that the lyrics pertain to Bieber and the on-again, off-again romance the two have lived out very prominently in the spotlight’s glare. This is the first time since Selena Gomez did a rehab stint that she’s back in that spotlight for her music, and even though she likely hoped that would be the main topic of any conversations these days, Justin Bieber is still stuck to her like glue–even if only in the form of a topic the Wizards of Waverly Place star can’t quite shake.
“Everybody wants to form their own opinions anyway,” she said to Ryan Seacrest about her relationship with Justin Bieber. “I think the biggest problem I had this year–even with [Justin] and on his side–is identity.”
“I was trying to figure out what I’m doing, and that was the first time I was constantly being kicked down for doing that,” Gomez said of the beginning of their romance. “When I didn’t know, I just wanted to say, ‘This is what I want, this is where I am in my professional life, things changed in my personal life, things changed in my heart–everything.'”
“And people just thought, ‘All right, this is what we think.’ And yeah, I made some decisions that weren’t great as well, and so did he, and that’s why we went through all that to only make us better,” she added.

Selena Gomez cries in the beginning of her music video–and it’s for real, too. A mic was apparently taped under a table where the ‘Come & Get It’ singer went to compose herself during a particularly difficult moment. It was raw. It was genuine. And it works for the song.
“[I learned] how to love myself first. And not just in a relationship, just my everyday life,” Selena Gomez said as her conversation with Ryan Seacrest continued. “I give myself so much, I let people pull at me in every direction, and I want everybody to be happy. Eventually I would be in my bathroom sobbing right before I go onstage.”
She admitted she never spent any time on or for herself.
“I kept pushing myself, and I think the biggest thing I learned is, it’s OK. I’m going to stop when I need to stop, I’m going to feel when I need to feel, and I don’t care what comes with that or what people want to say. It’s normal,” she said.
Selena says Justin Bieber loves her new single and music video.
“He thought it was beautiful,” she says of the time he first heard it.
“I think it was really hard. I think he was a little jealous of the video guy at first,” she added.
Selena Gomez still won’t say whether she and Justin Bieber are romantically involved at this time or not.
“I support him. I think I always will. I’m upset when he’s upset, I’m happy when he’s happy. I don’t want anything bad ever to happen to him. It hurts me. That’s all,” she said.
No one really knows for sure if Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are on-again or off-again at the moment, but one thing about the two remains true. They are fiercely protective of one another and of each other’s music. It probably wouldn’t surprise anyone if, after they both grow up a bit more, the two wind up together.
