While we may be able to file this under missing the “strike while the iron is hot” window, for Star Wars fans eager to keep up with details surrounding George Lucas’ last theatrical entries into the Star Wars storyline, this is pretty cool. What we have is Samuel L. Jackson appearing on The Graham Norton Show, when the topic of appearing the prequels was brought up, which led to the host asking Jackson about the color of his character’s lightsaber. If you recall, Jackson’s character, Mace Windu, had a purple blade, which deviated from Lucas’ established norm: red for the bad guys, blue or green blades for the good guys.
In fact, there was a Mace Windu spot/mini trailer for Attack of the Clones where his purple lightsaber is highlighted:
If you want to know what an electrum lightsaber is, at least regarding Star Wars lore, check out the Wookiepedia entry.
Anyway, Windu/Jackson’s saber color has been the a point of interest for fans and Graham Norton alike, and so, the host got to the bottom of why Jackson had a purple lightsaber. The answer, as you might expect, is delivered in the classic Samuel L. Jackson style. The language is slightly NSFW, especially when he talks about owning a lightsaber that features a nod to his Pulp Fiction character, Jules Winnfield. See for yourself:
I don’t know about you, but I would love to have one of those specialized lightsaber hilts.
