An great actor with one of the most recognizable deliveries and some of the most unique mannerisms ever has died.
Peter Falk “died peacefully” at his home in Beverly Hills late yesterday evening, according to a statement released by his friend and attorney Larry Larson. The cause of death was not released, but court documents from 2008 suggest that he may have been suffering from Alzheimer’s. He was 83.
The veteran actor performed on both the screen and stage, but is probably most known for his role as TV’s Lt. Columbo. Wearing his trademarked raincoat, Columbo would always seem to be absent-minded before nailing the bad guys with his line “just one more thing.”
But this writer most fondly remembers Falk as the Grandpa who reads his grandson the tale in The Princess Bride. Something about Falk just seemed to speak to assurance and humility.
Twitter has reacted strongly to Falk’s passing, as much of its trending topics are being taken up by Falk-related subjects-
And there has been an outpouring of celebrity comments on his death. Apparently he was a much loved figure within the Hollywood community. Here are some tweets from celebs that make use of some of his best roles –
