Pat Robertson “Vomit” Button Remark Just One of Many

  • Josh Wolford reported previously that Pat Robertson, a former Southern Baptist minister, founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) and host of the 700 Club show, had a request for Mark Zuckerberg. Not that many any of those requests get looked at, but he floated it anyway.

Robertson would like a Vomit Button on Facebook, as an alternative to the Like Button. He would particularly reserve that downvote for pictures of same-sex couples on Facebook.

His comments have rankled many, especially given the recent sea change regarding same-sex marriage in the U.S. But, Robertson is no stranger to this kind of controversy, and he will not likely be issuing any retractions or apologies over it. He has pitched out some advice and answers over the years that has ruffled the feathers of all but his most ardent fans.

Talking about adultery: “Males have a tendency to wander a little bit. And what you want to do is make a home so wonderful he doesn’t want to wander.”

Talking about Disney World’s Gay Days: “I would warn Orlando that you’re right in the way of some serious hurricanes, and I don’t think I’d be waving those flags in God’s face if I were you … It’ll bring about terrorist bombs; it’ll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor.”

On feminism: “The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians.”

In 2010, shortly after the earthquake that rocked Haiti, he made a comment that put off many other Christians, especially those with outreach missions in Haiti: “They [the Haitians] were under the heel of the French, you know, Napoleon the third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, ‘We will serve you if you will get us free from the prince.’ True story. And so the devil said, ‘OK, it’s a deal.’ And they kicked the French out. The Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after another.”
