Amazon just pulled Oprah Winfrey into its audio fold. The multiyear pact hands Wondery exclusive distribution and ad sales for The Oprah Podcast, plus rights to her book club, Favorite Things franchise, and the vast library of The Oprah Winfrey Show. New episodes drop twice weekly starting July across Prime Video, Amazon Music, Audible, and Fire TV channels. That’s double the prior pace. The show keeps running on YouTube and other platforms too.

Oprah Winfrey sees it as a natural extension of her mission. “Hosting this podcast allows me to continue the work I feel called to do — opening the door for conversations that matter,” she said in a statement shared with Variety. “The kind of conversations that remind us we’re not alone, and invite us to see ourselves and one another more clearly. Expanding our reach globally is an opportunity I embrace.” Her Harpo Entertainment produces the video series, which draws nearly 1 million YouTube subscribers with chats on resilience, tech addiction, grief, even bonds with dogs. Guests? Heavy hitters like Hugh Jackman, Serena Williams, Jeremy Allen White.

In its debut year, the podcast snagged a Gracie Award for Video Podcast Host. Four Ambie nods followed. A Webby nomination too. Podscribe ranked it No. 2 in January 2026. Executive producers Oprah and Tara Montgomery oversee it, with Brian Piotrowicz and Brad Pavone as co-exec producers. CAA and Loeb & Loeb negotiated for Harpo against Amazon.

Amazon execs couldn’t hide their enthusiasm. Steve Boom, VP of Audio, Twitch, and Games, called Oprah’s brand “one of the most iconic, timeless brands in the world, spanning television, publishing, and beyond.” He told The Hollywood Reporter, “Through this collaboration with Harpo Entertainment, we are bringing her voice to more people and expanding how her audiences engage with Oprah in ways only Amazon can deliver.” Matt Sandler, GM of Creator Services, added: “Long before the term ‘creator’ existed, Oprah was building a direct and deeply personal connection with audiences across generations – and that bond continues to grow.”

Wondery slots The Oprah Podcast alongside celebrity draws like New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Baby, This is Keke Palmer. Recall Amazon’s $100 million-plus deal for the Kelces’ show in 2024. No price tag here, though. Financial terms stay under wraps, as The New York Times first noted.

But. Amazon still figures out the 25 seasons of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Clips by theme? Rereleases of timely interviews? The Verge, citing Variety, reports options float around. The archive could feed specials or Prime Video deep cuts, blending nostalgia with fresh spins.

So why now? Amazon retooled Wondery last August. Narrative podcasts shifted to Audible. Creator-led video stayed with Wondery, now under a beefed-up Creator Services team. The split axed 110 jobs, per earlier reports. Today’s move fits that pivot. Video podcasts boom as the next talk show format. Boom told the Times: “This is the ultimate validation of where the world is going… You have the most influential talk show host in history, by orders of magnitude, leaning heavily into this new world.”

Oprah’s Book Club and Favorite Things get Amazon integration too. Expect specials tying picks to products, perhaps shoppable via Prime. Her podcast episodes already spotlight authors live. This scales it. Harpo’s content machine—once daytime TV dominance—adapts to streaming’s personality-driven demands.

Competition heats up. Netflix courts Spotify, iHeartMedia; eyes originals with Pete Davidson, Michael Irvin. Spotify owns Joe Rogan. But Amazon’s ecosystem stands apart. Prime Video pairs video pods with shopping, music, audiobooks. One login. Endless loops.

Industry watchers see ripple effects. Creator deals balloon. Wondery’s slate grows personality-led. Oprah validates the bet. Her first-year awards prove draw. Doubling episodes? Smart. More ads, bigger audience.

Amazon’s audio push dates back. Wondery buy in 2021 for $310 million. Now, post-reorg, it chases video scale. Oprah joins Kelces, Shepard—proof celebs flock here. Global reach via Fire TV, Music apps in 100-plus countries.

Challenges linger. Podcast ad market softens amid economic jitters. Video helps. Visuals boost engagement 20-30%, per some metrics. Oprah’s live-audience tapings suit screens. YouTube holdover keeps free access, funnels to Amazon.

And the old show library. 4,500-plus hours. Goldmine or headache? Amazon could AI-tag for search, serve personalized clips. Or launch themed channels: “Oprah on Resilience.” Untapped revenue if done right.

Oprah keeps creating. Book Club endures; latest picks drive sales spikes. Favorite Things holidays boost brands. Amazon commerce tie-ins obvious. Pods discuss wellness? Link supplements. Grief? Therapy apps.

For insiders, this signals consolidation. Tech giants hoard IP. Creators pick platforms with distribution muscle. Amazon delivers. Wondery’s no longer just scripted tales—it’s celebrity hub. Oprah cements that.

Expect announcements soon. July launch looms. Specials in works. Watch Prime metrics spike.
