Netflix launched in Brazil and Latin America a little over two years ago. The company has reportedly seen significant growth rates in the region. It has also been engaged in a massive ad campaign in the region, having published more online display ads in Brazil and Mexico than any other marketer earlier this year.
Today, based on words from Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos, Variety is reporting that the company plans to produce locally original shows “with robust budgets and worldwide distribution” in the region.
“We will start producing original content in Brasil as soon as we have a large enough subscriber base,” he is quoted as saying.
The company has already launched one exclusive production in Brazil – a three-part comedy series called A toca:
Meanwhile, as Variety also reports, Netflix has selected Brazilian film Apenas o fim for worldwide distribution through Netflix after it won a local contest. The film is currently available on YouTube:
