  • Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz is signed on to executive produce a new comedy series for Netflix. No, it’s not a new season of Arrested Development – though that’s likely happening in the near future.

Hurwitz is producing a 30-minute, single-camera comedy starring comedian Maria Bamford. It’s called Lady Dynamite and is “based on what Bamford has accepted to be ‘her life.’ The occasionally surreal episodes, refracted across multiple periods inspired by her life, tell the story of a woman who loses – and then finds – her shit.”

Bamford has worked with Netflix before, debuting her comedy special Maria Bamford: The special special special! back in May.

The Hollywood Reporter says the Hurwitz and Pam Brady (South Park) wrote the pilot, and Brady will showrun.

As with most of Netflix’s originals, the first season will contain 13 episodes.

In other Netflix comedy news, the company just ordered a new series from Two and a Half Men showrunners Don Reo and Jim Patterson. It’s called The Ranch, and will star Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson.

Apart from being a That ’70s Show reunion, The Ranch will be a first for Netflix – a 20-episode season that’s split into two 10-episode arcs, both airing inside a year.
