Today, Netflix launched version 2.4 of their iOS app which, among other things, brings full iPhone 5 optimization to the app. That means that all you guys out there who have already gotten your hands on the new iPhone can enjoy streaming movies and TV shows on the larger 16:9 screen.

“Good news! Today we updated the Netflix App for iOS to optimize for iPhone 5. Download the App and enjoy Netflix movies and TV shows on the taller iPhone 5 screen. Have fun!” says Director of Product Management Roma De on the Netflix blog.

What the blog fails to mention is the other updates shipped along with v2.4, which includes “added support for iOS 6” and “improved browsing, searching, and watching experience.”

We’re not exactly sure what the improved experience is all about, but we can guess that they’re talking about the big update to their iOS app that Netflix unveiled earlier this month. That update made the iPhone/iPod Touch more closely resemble the iPad in terms of viewer experience.

“You will see many more titles and galleries than we have ever shown before on a smartphone. It is much closer to the Netflix experience on tablets, which got a major upgrade late last year,” said Netflix.

The new app also featured a new “continue watching” quick-bar and double tap support for playback.

Earlier this week, Netflix updated their Android app to include some fo the same new features.

Anyway, Netflix becomes another in a long line of major apps to update for the iPhone 5 (Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Pinterest and more). With these recent updates, watching Netflix on the small(er) screen should be the most enjoyable it’s ever been.

You can download the iPhone 5-optimized app right now on iTunes.
