NBC’s Monday night drama The Blacklist has turned out to be a giant hit, and Netflix is reportedly prepared to pay a pretty penny to acquire its streaming rights.

Deadline reports that Netflix has acquired the rights to The Blacklist in a deal that would amount to $2 million an episode. This would most likely be the most Netflix has ever paid for a streaming deal. Deadline also says that Sony TV could sell the rights to the show into syndication, but Netflix would have that all-important first window – which the streaming company values.

The Blacklist‘s 22-episode first season was a bit of a surprising hit for the network, becoming network TV’s third highest-rated drama (NCIS and NCIS: LA). It stars James Spader as Raymond “Red” Reddington, a former government agent who suddenly surrenders to the FBI after evading capture for years. His performance netted him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor this year.

The highly-anticipated second season premiere on Monday, September 22nd.

Apparently, the first season of the show could land in Netflix’s streaming offerings as early as next weekend.
