  • Score another win for Netflix in the original content realm. The company has just given a big vote of confidence to a new series called Love – committing to two seasons right off the bat.

Love comes to us from Judd Apatow and Lesley Arfin. The former you know for sure and the latter has written for FOX’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine and HBO’s Girls. Produced by Legendary TV, the new comedy is set to star Paul Rust (Inglorious Basterds, I Love You, Beth Cooper) and Gillian Jacobs of Community fame. They’ll play a couple named Mickey and Gus.

“Judd Apatow has a unique comedic voice that manages to be delightful, insightful, and shockingly frank — often at the same time,” said Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos in a statement. “Together with Paul and Lesley, he’s bringing a whole new level of agony and ecstasy to this modern day comedy of manners.”

According to Variety’s sources, Netflix gave the show that two-year guarantee because the really wanted a Judd Apatow show. Apparently, Netflix beat out Hulu for the show’s rights, which went up for bid in early 2014.

The first season of Love will contain 10 episodes and premiere on Netflix sometime in 2016. Season two will have 12 episodes and will land in 2017.
