The Nerf Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow by Hasbro encourages young girls to behave like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire character, Katniss Everdeen. Played by Jennifer Lawrence, Katniss shoots to kill in The Hunger Games, and your little girl can learn to do the same.

Very clearly marketed to make weapons appealing to little girls, the Nerf Rebelle is pretty in shades of purple and pink. Its darts soar 75 feet across the room or the yard, and encourage interactive play. This means girls can have the same kind of fun that boys do–pretending to kill one another.

Check out the ad for the Nerf Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow. Opening with comments about girls being strong and confident, it quickly digresses into action scenes where girls with bows and arrows are running and shooting at one another.

Twitter fans have a few interesting things to say about the Nerf Rebelle.

In addition to being a bit on the sexist side (really–girls have to have pink and purple weapons in order to play violently?) it’s always interesting to see toy companies market products that encourage violence. The Nerf Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow is clearly a popular item. Twitter users frequently post sale sightings, along with how much the item costs.

What’s your take on the Nerf Rebelle Heartbreaker Bow? If you have two daughters, you can also pick up a Nerf Rebelle Pink Crush Blaster. These toys are definitely on the holiday lists of many parents this year. Will you be picking one up? Do you want your daughters simulating the behavior of Katniss Everdeen?
