Minecraft creator Notch might have pulled the greatest Twitter stunt that the gaming world has ever seen.
Many people have given up hope on a sequel to Tim Schafer’s Psychonauts since it would require a substantial investment and many publishers don’t want to touch the franchise since the first game performed so poorly.
Recently, Tim Schafer said in an interview with Digital Spy that he would love to make a sequel to Psychonauts:
“I’d love to do that game, but I’d have to convince someone to just give me a few million dollars, that’s all.”
This is where things get interesting. Notch, earlier today, sent Schafer a tweet:
@TimOfLegend Let’s make Psychonauts 2 happen.
Everybody thought it was a joke, but then Notch clarified that he was was serious:
@rockpapershot Not sure if it’s news yet, but when/if it is, you get to at least say it was a result of your tweet. ;D Also, I’m serious.
The conversation went on until it was more prudent to take the conversation to a more private setting. Steven Dengler, a financer for Tim Schafer’s studio, Double Fine, does make a valid point. Keeping the conversation in the open would raise hopes too much. It just might not work out, but if there’s one man who has the ridiculous gobs of money to fund a game like Psychonauts 2 – it’s Notch.
But wait, what does Schafer have to say about all of this, it’s his studio and game after all.
Oh wait. Hm. This is interesting.
We’ll keep you updated on this story as I’m sure it’s going to explode over the week with potential details.
Twitter has reasonably exploded at the news with industry peers and gamers welcoming the news as a step towards not only an awesome game, but perhaps a new publishing model.
@Notch and @TimOfLegend to make Psychonauts 2 and prove that there are other ways to get your game made these days. DO EET!
