  • Microsoft and The Linux Foundation announced on Wednesday that they have partnered to offer a new certification for Linux on Azure.

“In order to become certified, individuals must pass both the Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator exam, and the Microsoft 70-533, Implementing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions, exam,” a spokesperson for The Linux Foundation tells WebProNews. “By combining the existing leading Microsoft and Linux certifications, the new Linux on Azure certification will ensure SysAdmins managing this type of cloud deployment are fully qualified to address anything they come across, providing valuable assurance to employers and customers.”

The new certification will be issued by Microsoft after confirming passage of both exams.

“This commitment demonstrates Microsoft’s resolve in increasing its participation in and contribution to open source software,” the spokesperson says.

“The Linux Foundation is the leading organization representing stakeholder interests in the open source ecosystem. That, combined with its proven commitment to professional, distribution-flexible and performance-based certifications, makes it a natural choice for our partner for Linux on Azure certifications,” said Steven Guggenheimer, chief evangelist at Microsoft.

Last month, Microsoft entered a partnership with Red Hat to include Red Hat solutions on Azure with Red Hat Enterprise Linux to be offered as the preferred choice for enterprise Linux workloads.
