While Meta has paused launching its AI products in Europe due to the legal uncertainty, no such delay has occurred in Australia.

Adam Barty, a managing director at the digital consultancy Revium, highlighted how Australia’s current regulatory framework lags behind other countries. “If you are in Australia, you can’t opt out…unless you manually go through and make all your content private, albeit there is no guarantee that will work as there is no transparency on when the data scrape has, or will, happen,” Barty stated.

As the inquiry into AI adoption continues, the Australian public and lawmakers are likely to press for more stringent privacy protections, potentially forcing Meta and other tech companies to reconsider their data practices in the region.
