Maureen O’Hara starred in some of the greatest classic films ever made. She was the mother and Macy’s executive in Miracle on 34th Street and the mother on the classic The Parent Trap, among other roles.
Starring with John Wayne in several films, Maureen O’Hara quickly developed a strong friendship with The Duke.
In her memoir, Maureen O’Hara compared her feelings after John Wayne’s death to those after the death of her husband, Charles Blair.
She said, “What a hell of a game of chess must have been played by Charlie and Duke in heaven that night. And then I said, ‘Good-bye, you two bastards … please miss me.'”
Maureen O’Hara’s love for John Wayne never turned into anything romantic, but the two of them were a perfect match on the screen.
Maureen O’Hara’s family released a statement after her death, saying, “Maureen was our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family as they celebrated her life listening to music from her favorite movie, The Quiet Man.”
