  • Google regularly features a doodle for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and that tradition continues today.

This is the tenth year that Google has run a doodle for the day, but actually the eleventh doodle Google has honored Dr. King with.

Google has not run a doodle every year, but ran MLK Day doodles in 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Last summer, Google honored the anniversary of the “I Have a Dream” speech with a doodle:

Here are the past MLK Day doodles:

    2003

    2006

    2007

    2008

    2009

    2010

    2011

    2012

    2013

Today’s doodle appears to be shown in the U.S. only. When clicked, it offers the user a panel from Google’s Knowledge Graph featuring biographical information about his birth, death, spouse, awards, children and education. It also offers the option to see results about Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, and to sign up to stay updated about updates about Dr. King.

According to Google, people who search for King also search for Mahatma Gandhi, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and Martin Luther.

Last week, Google ran doodles honoring the British Museum, Sofia Kovalevskaya, Josip Vandot, Dian Fossey and Tomás Carrasquilla.
