Mark Wahlberg was captured on camera giving a $100 bill to a wheelchair-bound man outside of a restaurant in Beverly Hills. It was Thursday when he and wife Rhea Durman–along with some of their friends–dined for lunch at E. Baldi. When he spotted the man in the wheelchair as they were leaving, he pressed the money into his hand.

People magazine reports that Mark Wahlberg was dressed very casually–wearing jeans and work boots topped with a Travis Matthews t-shirt. The recipient of the money appeared grateful, according to the publication.

Mark Wahlberg is no stranger to philanthropy. The Boston native founded the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation in 2001. It’s mission is “to improve the quality of life for inner city youth,” according to the foundation’s website.

The Ted 2 star has long supported the Good Shepherd Center for Homeless Women & Children in Los Angeles. In 2012, the center honored him for his “deep and impactful” generosity.

Philanthropy didn’t get Mark Wahlberg a pardon from crimes committed in his youth, however. Even though he listed his efforts on his application for that pardon, it didn’t seem to make a difference to those making the final decision.

“I have not engaged in philanthropic efforts in order to make people forget about my past,” Mark Wahlberg said on the application. “To the contrary, I want people to remember my past so that I can serve as an example of how lives can be turned around and how people can be redeemed.”

Mark Wahlberg certainly doesn’t seem like the kind of person to gives to others in order to receive something in return. Despite being denied the pardon in Massachusetts that he applied for, he is still abundantly philanthropic to this day. He likely made the day of the wheelchair-bound man in Beverly Hills when he gave him that money on Thursday. Don’t you wish more celebrities would follow in his footsteps and use some of their wealth for good?
