Man Alive At Own Funeral: Mistaken Identity Leads To Grief

Imagine being told your son had been shot dead on the job. His body is identified at the morgue.

Now imagine holding a wake for him at your home, only to see him walk in, alive and well.

That’s what happened to Brazilian mother Marina Santana recently when a case of mistaken identity led to confusion. After being told her son Gilberto had been shot dead while working at a local car wash, the grieving mother sent her other son to identify the body. He did so, then brought the body back to his mother’s house for a funeral/wake. The problem was, it wasn’t her son at all, but rather one of his coworkers who looked remarkably like him. The mistake wasn’t discovered until Gilberto walked through the front door during the wake, shocking the guests and causing panic and confusion.

After the initial shock wore off, Santana said she was overwhelmingly happy to see her son again.

“I am overjoyed. What mother wouldn’t be after being told that her son is dead and then sees him alive?”

The body was later identified as Genivaldo Santos Gama; unfortunately, no further information on him or his family is available.
