  • For over a year now professional skier Lindsey Vonn has been dating golf star Tiger Woods. Though Vonn has said she isn’t looking for marriage she has stood by the golf pro through some tough times.

This week Vonn spoke out against a fake interview with Woods written by golf writer Dan Jenkins. Vonn told USA Today that the article “went way to far” and that it “wasn’t clear that it was a joke.”

The article was published on the Golf Digest website and had the title “My (Fake) Interview With Tiger* – *Or how it plays out in my mind.” Topics covered in the clearly satirical interview included Woods firing many of his people, Woods’ relationships with other golfers, and Woods’ failure to win a major in some time.

After the piece was published Woods essentially outed himself as humorless, penning a lengthy refutation of the fake interview for ThePlayersTribune.com. The pro golfer ripped into Jenkins’ piece, calling it “a grudge-fueled piece of character assassination.” Woods went on to describe the fake interview as “below the belt” and also published a letter that was sent by his representatives to Golf Digest. From the editorial:

Whether it’s misreported information or opinions I think are way off base, I let plenty of things slide. But this time I can’t do that. The sheer nastiness of this attack, the photos and how it put false words in my mouth just had to be confronted.

Vonn spoke with USA Today about the interview while training in Vail, Colorado. This week Vonn has been skiing down the same slopes where she was injured last year. In February 2013 Vonn crashed during a championship run at a Vail ski resort, severely injuring her right knee. She was airlifted from the scene and later had surgery on the knee.

Though Vonn had vowed to compete in this year’s Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, the skiing star didn’t quite make it. She re-injured her knee while competing in France in December 2013 and later regretfully announced that she wouldn’t make it to Sochi.
