Back in October, we learned that Netflix had ordered a new, 13-episode season of a untitled thriller from Damages creators Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler.
We still don’t have a title for the show, but we now have a leading man.
Deadline reports that Kyle Chandler has signed on to star in the new series.
Netflix describes the show as one that “that centers on a family of adult siblings whose secrets and scars are revealed when their black sheep brother returns home.”
“We are absolutely thrilled to be creating an original series for Netflix — a company committed to cutting-edge storytelling in a vibrant, new space. We’re equally excited about our relationship with Sony Pictures TV, which continues to provide us with unwavering creative support. We’ve always wanted to put our spin on a family saga and examine universal themes of family in a way that has never been seen before on television. The series is a tightly wound thriller that explores the complex bonds between parents and children, brothers and sisters, and the rivalries, jealousies, and betrayals at the core of every family,” said Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler when Netflix first announced the new series.
And when it comes to family men on the small screen, Kyle Chandler sure fits the bill. His role as Coach Taylor on the incredibly popular Friday Night Lights endeared him to a large audience. I doubt he’ll be playing a Coach Taylor-style role, however, as Netflix describes the new show as a “psychological thriller.” You can expect some darkness from this new series, as it apparently “explores the wounds and emotional demons that lie at the core of a contemporary American family.”
The show is still in its early stages (as proved by its lack of a title) – filming is set to start in March.
In other Netflix originals news, the surprise hit Orange Is The New Black is close to wrapping up filming on season 2. Netflix also just announced a new series about the famed explorer Marco Polo – a series which they acquired from Starz last year.
