Kirk Cameron, noted Christian and pro-life advocate, recently spoke up for Missouri Congressman Todd Akin regarding the backlash he's received since using the term "legitimate rape" and making the assertion that a woman's body has the ability to "shut down" a pregnancy which is the result of rape.

"I'm not his political strategist, thank God," Cameron said. “But I do know, as I’ve sat to actually watch the video — I’ve learned to actually go watch it and not just read the transcripts and the quotes--and clearly, this is a man who is advocating the sanctity of life, through and through. He said he misspoke, and he apologized for it. I like to evaluate people based on their entire life, their entire career, all they stand for ... I believe he’s a very good man. He’s now in a very difficult spot.”

Cameron is making the rounds on talk shows to promote his new documentary, "Monumental", which is about government and religion and happens to feature Akin. His comments are receiving some backlash of their own, although not nearly as strong as the retaliation created when he spoke up about gay marriage.
