If you were a child of the 1980s, you had the pleasure of enjoying the Star Wars movies before they became polluted with George Lucas’ regressive revisions of special effects, the unnecessary addition of Greedo shooting first, those Happy Meal-promoting prequels, and now the unsavory arrival of all Star Wars movies in 3D. It’s almost as if George Lucas doesn’t want Frank Miller to be the lone recipient of my loathing for sci-fi/fantasy creators who I can’t stand now that I’m mostly an adult.
Occasionally, something good this way comes that reminds me of why I found Star Wars endearing and fun in the first place. To wit: Microsoft’s got a new Star Wars game in the works for their Kinect platform that, regardless of whether or not it provides some redemption to the damage that George Lucas has done to the film franchise’s legacy, has a pretty amusing trailer to stoke your interest. The trailer for the upcoming game, Kinect Star Wars, features Darth Vader and Chris Pratt (of Parks & Recreation) as Obi-Wan Kinobi in an amusing re-enactment of the iconic duel from the end of Episode IV: A New Hope.
There seems to be some confusion about when the game comes out; Amazon lists the release date as December 31, 2012, but the Wikipedia page lists the release date as April 2012. Who cares, though, because as long as we get fun promotional videos like this in the meantime I’m not in any hurry for the game to come out.
And I’m not even going to tell you how many times I’ve had an impromptu pants-optional light saber duel in my Death Star-like living room.
