Kim Dotcom, founder of file sharing website Megaupload and alleged pirate, said that he is willing to give a $5 million reward to whistleblowers who are willing to release information that will help him defend himself.

Dotcom is now in New Zealand, where he is fighting extradition to the U.S., as he is facing charges on copyright theft, money laundering, and racketeering. He could be facing 20 years in prison. Reports said that Dotcom owed more than $500 million in copyright costs. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) both have civil actions against Dotcom.

On Monday, lawyers of six Hollywood film studios and four music companies appeared at the High Court in Auckland in order to pursue freezing all of Dotcom’s New Zealand assets.

According to Dotcom’s lawyer, Dotcom and his wife are willing to maintain the current freeze of assets, however the companies should offer security in return. They are seeking $250,000 for Dotcom and another $250,000 for his estranged wife.

Representatives for the companies tried to argue with the figures presented, but Justice John Fogarty said that $250,000 is not a big amount for these large companies. Fogarty requested the parties to come up with the conditions of the asset freeze. If they are not able to do so, they will need to return to court at a later date.

Dotcom is now seeking help from anyone who can give him evidence of corrupt or unlawful behavior from the U.S. government, spy agencies, Hollywood, the New Zealand government, and law enforcement. He also said that according to his legal team, disclosure of the information he is seeking is deemed lawful. He is also offering legal representation for the whistleblower who is willing to come forward with information and evidence.
