There are a ton of projects launched on Kickstarter all the time, and now, the crowdfunding platform has a new way to highlight stand-out projects.
On Tuesday, Kickstarter announced the “Projects We Love” badge, which it considers a simple way to feature projects that “go the extra mile”.
For example, take this campaign for the release of the already-completed film Tex Montana Will Survive from filmmaker Jeremy Gardner (The Battery). The goal is to raise enough money so they can release the film for free to everyone in the world, but still make enough money off their hard work so they can continue making movies (full disclosure: I’m fan of Gardner’s work and contributed).
The badge means it has earned the “love and respect” from Kickstarter for being a project worth taking note of.
“Projects We Love is an evolution of Staff Picks, a feature we used in the past to connect creators and backers around best-in-class projects,” Kickstarter says in a blog post. “The difference is that Projects We Love automatically get a nice little badge, so that everyone can tell when we’re extra excited about a project. Projects We Love are featured by a team that works to surface extra-bright projects. They’re not paid endorsements, and like any other project, they retain complete creative independence. Most simply, a Project We Love badge is a show of respect and enthusiasm from us at Kickstarter.”
The badge should help a lot of worthwhile projects get some additional notice. There currently appear to be 318 projects that Kicktarter has given the badge to so far.
Last month, Kickstarter finally hit Android with a new app.
